Ground work

Fort Rickey grows grass and weeds like no other! If your into gardening or mowing lawns, we can use you! Raking, planting, weeding, and watering are some of the many chores that the zoo always needs help accomplishing. We offer great atmosphere in a natural setting and supply you with all you need, including bottled water, gloves, sunscreen, and bug spray! Perhaps even a friendly chicken or peacock will visit with you while you work!

painting and staining

There are countless areas around the zoo that need a fresh coat of paint and lots of new fences that need staining. This is a nice way to get out in the fresh air and sunshine! If you like to paint, there’s a place here waiting for you! We supply all the items you’ll need, including bottled water, sun screen, and bug spray to keep you comfortable!

construction and habitat building

This area of work does require a more knowledgeable volunteer, but we also need strong arms to help us in these bigger projects. If you have a background in construction, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry work, or just have big muscles we need you!! We have several structures that require slight demolition and remodeling. Most of the work done is by our own hands. Having support from folks in the community with skills is much desired and appreciated!
